The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (Toronto) (HKETO) continues to bolster economic relations between Canada and Hong Kong through a series of strategic engagements and events during the five-day visit by the Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, Mr Christopher Hui, to Toronto, Ottawa and Vancouver from May 26 to 30 to promote Hong Kong's position as a leading international financial centre and a hub for innovation.
On May 27, HKETO co-organised a business luncheon in Toronto with the National Club, drawing Canadian financial leaders and executives. Mr Hui delivered a keynote on Hong Kong’s financial strengths, green finance initiatives, and the city’s international connectivity. The event spotlighted Hong Kong’s stability and predictability, through which Hong Kong continues to earn the confidence of global investors. On May 29, HKETO partnered with the Hong Kong-Canada Business Association (Vancouver Chapter) for a luncheon in Vancouver to engage the Canadian business community in the West Coast. Mr Hui addressed opportunities for cross-region collaboration and Hong Kong’s evolving role as a platform for accessing to markets in Mainland China and Asia.
The Acting Director of HKETO, Mr Gavin Yeung, welcomed guests at both luncheons, underlining HKETO’s commitment to supporting Canadian enterprises to explore opportunities in Hong Kong, and to promoting closer economic and cultural exchanges between the two regions.
A highlight of Mr Hui’s visit was his participation in the Web Summit Vancouver on May 30, a premier global technology event attracting over 10 000 tech investors, entrepreneurs, and industry leaders. HKETO supported Mr. Hui’s participation in a panel discussion session alongside the Minister of Jobs, Economic Development and Innovation of British Columbia, Ms Diana Gibson, on the building of a dynamic fintech economy. Mr Hui also visited the exhibition booth manned by Hong Kong delegates at the summit, and attended a networking side event “Hong Kong Night” co-organised by HKETO and Invest Hong Kong (Canada).
To further its outreach, HKETO also facilitated high-level meetings between Mr. Hui and key Canadian financial institutions, where he engaged with senior government officials, financial regulators and business leaders across Canada to strengthen bilateral ties and promote Hong Kong’s role as a leading international financial centre. During his stay in Ottawa on May 28, Mr Hui met with Senator Woo Yuen-pau at the Parliament Hill; Canada’s Deputy Minister of Finance, Mr Chris Forbes; and the Superintendent of Financial Institutions of the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions, Mr Peter Routledge. He also paid courtesy calls on the Chinese Ambassador to Canada, Mr Wang Di; the Consul-General of the People’s Republic of China in Toronto, Mr Luo Weidong; and the Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Vancouver, Mr Yang Shu, to discuss matters of mutual interest.
Through these engagements, HKETO strengthens connections between Canada and Hong Kong and builds bridges for stronger financial ties, especially as Canada looks to diversify its economy.

香港經貿處透過商務交流活動推動港加經濟聯繫
香港駐多倫多經濟貿易辦事處（香港經貿處）於香港特別行政區政府財經事務及庫務局局長許正宇五月二十六日至三十日訪問多倫多、渥太華及溫哥華期間，透過一系列商務交流活動，加強港加經濟聯繫，展示香港作為國際金融中心及創新樞紐的獨特優勢。
香港經貿處五月二十七日與National Club在多倫多合辦商務午宴，吸引近百名加拿大金融界領袖出席。許正宇在會上發表主題演講，介紹香港在綠色金融、國際互聯互通及制度穩定方面的優勢，使全球投資者對香港保持信心。此外，香港經貿處亦於五月二十九日聯同港加商會（溫哥華分會）在溫市舉辦商務午宴，進一步與加拿大西岸商界建立聯繫。許正宇在席間講解兩地合作機會，並介紹香港如何構建平台，促進加拿大企業與中國內地及亞洲市場聯通。
香港經貿處署理處長楊江鋒於兩場午宴中致歡迎辭，表示該處為有意拓展亞洲業務的加拿大企業提供支援，並致力促進兩地更緊密的經濟及文化交流。
許正宇是次訪問的其一重點項目是出席全球科技盛會「溫哥華網絡高峰會」，該活動吸引逾萬名科技投資者、創業者及行業領袖參與。許正宇在會上與卑詩省就業、經濟發展及創新廳廳長Diana Gibson同台出席論壇，探討香港建立蓬勃金融科技經濟的策略。他亦參觀由香港代表負責的參展攤位，並出席由香港經貿處與投資推廣署（加拿大）合辦的商務聯誼酒會「香港之夜」。
此外，香港經貿處在許正宇訪加期間安排與加拿大主要金融機構領袖會面，藉此加強雙邊關係，並推廣香港作為國際金融中心的重要角色。在五月二十八日到訪渥太華期間，許正宇拜會了參議員胡元豹、加拿大財政部副部長Chris Forbes，以及金融機構監管局專員Peter Routledge。許正宇亦禮節性拜訪中國駐加拿大大使王鏑、中國駐多倫多總領事羅偉東及中國駐溫哥華總領事楊舒。
透過這些活動，香港經貿處進一步鞏固加港兩地的經貿聯繫，積極為兩地金融合作搭建橋樑，特別藉加拿大尋求多元化發展之際，展示香港的重要角色。
