The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (Toronto) (HKETO) supported a Hong Kong contemporary dance group participating in the 36th SummerWorks Performance Festival in Toronto on August 9, reinforcing Hong Kong’s commitment to promoting international arts and cultural exchange.
Presented in partnership with CanAsian Dance and Toronto Dance Theatre, the Collision Project featured two works-in-development, Good Boy, Bad Girl and Spin and Click, by four Hong Kong artists from Unlock Dancing Plaza. The project showcases the creativity and distinctive perspectives of Hong Kong contemporary dance artists while fostering sustained cross-cultural collaboration between Hong Kong and Canada.
Speaking at a reception following the performances, the Director of HKETO, Mr Bill Wong, said that HKETO was pleased to support the project alongside the Hong Kong Arts Development Council and delighted that talented Hong Kong artists were invited to participate in this vibrant international platform.
“The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government is committed to developing Hong Kong as an East-meets-West centre for international cultural exchange,” Mr Wong said. “We believe that the arts are a universal language that connects people, and builds bridges across borders.”
Mr Wong added that Hong Kong continued its investment in world-class cultural infrastructure, including the Xiqu Centre in the West Kowloon Cultural District, which provides an outstanding platform for artistic excellence and international exchange.
The 36th SummerWorks Performance Festival is being held in Toronto from August 6 to 16, featuring 35 projects, including 27 live performances, as well as workshops and discussions involving artists and creative collaborators from around the world.
