Hong Kong is a Special Administrative Region (SAR) of the People's Republic of China, and was formally established on 1 July 1997 under the “One Country, Two Systems” principle. It exercises a high degree of autonomy, with executive, legislative and independent judicial powers, including that of final adjudication, in accordance with the Basic Law which is the constitutional document of Hong Kong SAR.
