HKETO Director promotes Hong Kong business opportunities in Vancouver
The Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (Toronto) (HKETO), Mr Bill Wong, attended the 2026 Association of Chinese Canadian Entrepreneurs (ACCE) West Coast Gala in Vancouver on October 7. Speaking at the event, he highlighted Hong Kong’s business and investment opportunities to more than 300 guests from the business community.
Mr Wong remarked that, under the “one country, two systems” framework, Hong Kong continues to be ranked as the world’s freest economy in the Economic Freedom of the World 2026 Annual Report, just released by the Fraser Institute.
“Hong Kong’s economy is growing strong in different sectors, and our achievements have won recognition around the world,” Mr Wong said. “We are once again ranked the world’s freest economy, and offer a free, stable and predictable business environment. In addition, Hong Kong has risen to top spot in cross boundary wealth management worldwide and the total amount of funds raised through initial public offerings so far this year is more than double than that raised in the same period last year.”
Mr Wong also highlighted the First Five-Year Plan for Economic and Social Development of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region announced by the Chief Executive last month. “We will strengthen the ‘four centres and one hub’ by consolidating and enhancing Hong Kong’s status as international financial, maritime, and trade centres, as well as an international aviation hub,” he said. “At the same time, we will expedite the city’s development into an international innovation and technology (I&T) centre and an international hub for high-calibre talent.”
Mr Wong also introduced the development of the Northern Metropolis which will serve as one of the most important engines for Hong Kong’s future growth. The Northern Metropolis will provide sizeable land for development, including building three university towns that will help bring together leading I&T enterprises and top talent to promote closer integration among education, research and industry.
Mr Wong said that, through the partnership with ACCE, HKETO will continue to support Canadian enterprises on the West Coast interested in exploring opportunities and business expansion in Hong Kong, on the Chinese Mainland and across Asia.
