HKETO showcases thriving professional prospects in Hong Kong’s infrastructure works

The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (Toronto) (HKETO) highlighted Hong Kong’s Northern Metropolis development and strengthened Canada–Hong Kong engineering collaboration at a reception hosted by the visiting Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) in Toronto on March 30.

Addressing nearly 100 professional engineers and HKIE members, the Director of HKETO, Mr Bill Wong, noted the shared strengths of Hong Kong and Canada in engineering excellence and professional talent.

Describing it as a major growth engine for innovation and technology spanning about one-third of Hong Kong’s land area, Mr Wong highlighted the three key anchors in the Northern Metropolis: the Loop Area innovation and cross-boundary data collaboration zone, the San Tin Technopole for large-scale I&T development, and the University Town to integrate academia, research, and industry. The whole development is projected to generate significant long-term economic value and high-quality employment, while the University Town will strengthen global talent development and innovation capacity.

Mr Wong emphasised opportunities for Canadian participation in the development, particularly for construction, architecture and engineering firms, supported by policy incentives aimed at attracting global expertise.

Led by its President Ms Alice Chow, the HKIE delegation paid a visit to Canada from March 25 to April 1 to facilitate professional exchanges between Hong Kong and Canada. At the reception, Ms Chow also presented the current and planned development projects, engineering career opportunities in Hong Kong as well as HKIE’s support for members.

香港經貿處展現香港基建工程蓬勃發展

香港駐多倫多經濟貿易辦事處（香港經貿處）在三月三十日會晤到訪的香港工程師學會，並在多倫多舉辦的酒會上，重點介紹香港的北部都會區發展，並加強加拿大與香港在工程領域的合作。

香港經貿處處長王國彪向在場近百名專業工程師及香港工程師學會會員致辭時表示，香港與加拿大在工程領域及專業人才方面同樣具備優勢。他指出，北部都會區作為涵蓋香港約三分之一土地的重要創新科技增長引擎，其中擁有三大核心支柱，包括：河套區的創新及跨境數據協作地帶、作為大型創科發展基地的新田科技城，以及整合學術、科研與產業的大學城。整項計劃預計帶來可觀的長遠經濟價值及就業機會，而大學城則有助加強全球人才培育及創新能力。

王國彪強調，該發展項目亦為加拿大企業帶來機遇，尤其是建築、設計與工程領域，而當局亦提供相關政策支持，以期吸引全球專業人才。

香港工程師學會代表團在會長周健德帶領下於三月二十五日至四月一日訪問加拿大，促進港加之間的專業交流。在酒會上，周健德亦介紹香港現有及規劃中的發展項目、工程界別就業機會，以及學會為會員提供的支援。
