HKETO Director promotes Greater Bay Area at 2024 MRVCBA Outstanding Women Awards Gala

Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (Toronto) (HKETO), Ms Emily Mo, promoted the enormous development opportunities of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) at the 2024 Markham, Richmond Hill & Vaughan Chinese Business Association (MRVCBA) Outstanding Women Awards Gala on June 15.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ms Mo said that the GBA is the engine of economic development in China and the world. As the most open and business-friendly international city in the GBA, Hong Kong played an influential role in connecting the GBA with other parts of the world, helping businesses and individuals to connect and excel in this new global economic zone.

She pointed out that the GBA comprises the Special Administrative Regions of Hong Kong and Macao, and nine cities in the Guangdong Province.  It has a total population of over 86 million of relatively higher portion of young population and middle-class; and has a GDP of over 1.7 trillion USD, which is about the GDP size of Canada.

“The objectives to develop the GBA are to deepen cooperation amongst the cities and fully leverage the composite advantages of them.  The governments of both sides have launched joint policy to implement measures conducive to the flow of talent, scientific research resources and business development in the zone,” she said.

She emphasized that Hong Kong would continue to be Canadian companies’ gateway to mainland China including the GBA, and invited Canadian companies and global talents to grasp the enormous opportunities presented by Hong Kong for business development and personal advancement.

HKETO sponsored the Outstanding Canada/Greater Bay Area Communion Award at the gala. This year the award was presented to the Founder and Director of Decomomo, Ms Jess Mok, who founded the household storage product company in Canada in 2016 and is exploring opportunities to enhance its international presence in markets including the United States, Europe and Asia.
