The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (Toronto) (HKETO) is proud to support the presentation of “The Eye of Wisdom”, a large video projection of animation by renowned Hong Kong artist Ms Ellen Pau, at Nuit Blanche Toronto 2025, taking place overnight from October 4 to 5.

Presented under this year’s theme “Translate the City through Art,” “The Eye of Wisdom” will be projected onto the west wall of Toronto City Hall, situated near Chinatown —an area with rich cultural history and connections to early Chinese-Canadian communities.

This visually stunning installation reimagines Pau’s acclaimed 2022 work “Shape of Light”, originally shown on the M+ Façade in Hong Kong. The Toronto iteration responds to its local architectural and historical context, integrating sign language from the Heart Sūtra, AI-generated models, and light-reactive animation.

This initiative is part of HKETO’s ongoing efforts to showcase Hong Kong’s vibrant cultural scene as an East-meets-West centre for international cultural exchange. The Acting Director of HKETO, Mr Gavin Yeung, said: “We are delighted to bring Hong Kong’s creative spirit to Nuit Blanche. ‘The Eye of Wisdom’ reflects the deep cultural and personal connections between Hong Kong and Canada, and offers a message of hope and reflection.”

Nuit Blanche is Toronto’s annual all-night celebration of contemporary art, produced by the City of Toronto in collaboration with Toronto’s arts community. “The Eye of Wisdom” project, curated by Canadian curator Ms Charlene K. Lau, was jointly sponsored by the HKETO and the Hong Kong Tourism Board.
