Director of HKETO visits Montreal for business promotion

Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (Toronto) (HKETO), Ms Mo, attended the “Mid-Autumn Festival Networking Cocktail” in Montreal on September 14 to promote Hong Kong’s business opportunities for Canadian companies. This networking cocktail is the first in-person event hosted by Hong Kong-Canada Business Association (HKCBA) Montreal Section after two challenging years of pandemic.

When addressing at the event, Ms Mo updated participants on the latest economic developments of Hong Kong and pointed out that the city has functioned remarkably well attracting a continual inflow of capital. “Capital continued to flow into Hong Kong with total banking deposits rising 5.4% in 2020 and 4.6% in 2021 during the pandemic,” Ms Mo said.

Besides, Ms Mo noted the World Investment Report 2021 published by the UN Conference on Trade and Development ranked Hong Kong the world’s third-largest recipient of foreign direct investment.

“Hong Kong remained one of Canada’s top ten trading markets in the past decade,” Ms Mo continued.

She went on to say that Hong Kong is integral to Asia and Indo-Pacific and acts as a bridge for business looking to access the Mainland Chinese market to capitalise on opportunities brought by the National 14th Five-Year Plan and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area development.

Before closing, Ms Mo encouraged Canadian companies to grasp the vast opportunities to tap into the markets in the Mainland China and Asia through the Hong Kong platform. She also took the opportunity to invite participants to visit the photography exhibition organised by HKETO to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. This photography exhibition will be held at Complexe Desjardins in Montreal from October 3 to 23 featuring a young photographer Kelvin Yuen, who won the distinguished “International Landscape Photographer of the Year” in 2020 at the age of 24. More information on the exhibition can be found at https://25a.hketo.ca/events/photography-exhibitions.

Ms Mo returned to Toronto on the same day.
