The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (Toronto) (HKETO) supported the Canadian premier of a Hong Kong Film “First Night Nerves” directed by acclaimed Hong Kong director Stanley Kwan at the 2nd Mulan International Film Festival in Toronto on August 17.

Speaking before the screening of “First Night Nerves”, Director of HKETO, Ms Emily Mo, introduced the dynamic film industry in Hong Kong and highlighted Hong Kong's success in film-making.  “Hong Kong has been making movies for more than a century and is a leading film-making centre in Asia. Over the past decade, Hong Kong films and talents have won over 500 international awards,” she said.

Noting that the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government is committed to supporting the long-term and healthy development of the film industry, Ms Mo said “The Chief Executive of the HKSAR Government has announced in the 2018 Policy Address the injection of HK$1 billion into the Film Development Fund to encourage more film production and promotion as well as to nurture film talents.”

Shot entirely in Hong Kong, “First Night Nerves” centres on the hidden tensions between two lead actresses, namely a stage veteran coming back after the death of her husband and a movie actress making her stage debut.
