HKETO supports Hong Kong films at Reel Asian International Film Festival

The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (Toronto) (HKETO), in partnership with the Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival, is proud to present the Canadian premieres of two Hong Kong films, namely “Tomorrow is Another Day” and “House of the Rising Sons”, at this year’s edition of the Festival. The two films will be screened at the TIFF Bell Lightbox on November 9 and 10 respectively.

Speaking at today’s press conference, Director of HKETO, Miss Kathy Chan, first welcomed the leading actor of “Tomorrow is Another Day”, Mr Ling Man-lung, who travelled from Hong Kong to attend the press conference and the screening of the film in the evening. Mr Ling was awarded Best New Performer for his role in the film at the 2018 Hong Kong Film Awards.

Miss Chan moved on to introduce the vibrant film industry in Hong Kong and highlighted Hong Kong's success in film-making. “In the past ten years alone, Hong Kong movies and film talent have won over 300 international awards and many Hong Kong actors, directors, cinematographers and producers have become household names at global level,” she said.

Noting that the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government is committed to supporting the film industry, Miss Chan said “The Chief Executive of the HKSAR Government has announced in the 2018 Policy Address the injection of HK$1 billion into the Film Development Fund, with a view to boosting the development of our film industry through measures under four broad directions, i.e. nurturing talent, enhancing local production, market expansion, and building audience.”

“Tomorrow is Another Day” provides a compelling snapshot of everyday life for the working class in Hong Kong and raises awareness for families with autistic children, while “House of the Rising Sons” is a musical joyride that chronicles the chart-topping success of the 1970s Hong Kong pop sensations, The Wynners.
Deputy Director of HKETO, Miss Florence Tsang, will speak before the screenings of both Hong Kong films.
