The East Meets West Charity Concert organised by the Sing Fai Sports Club was successfully held at the P.C. Ho Theatre of the Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Toronto on August 4. The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (Toronto) is a sponsor of the event.
The concert featured 39 youths from the Hong Kong Juvenile and Youth Chinese Classical Orchestra of La Salle College in Hong Kong, performing in collaboration with Toronto Chinese Orchestra and Yip’s Chamber Orchestra and Children Choir. Ms Emily Mo, Director of the HKETO noted that Hong Kong has a big pool of young music talents. “The Hong Kong young musicians, performing together with local musicians and choir, presented a harmony of Chinese and Western music to the audiences. This collaboration not only connects musicians of different generations but also enhances cultural exchanges between Hong Kong and Canada," she said.
The Hong Kong Juvenile and Youth Chinese Classical Orchestra was founded in 1990 with an aim to develop and promote Chinese culture, as well as to nurture a new generation of Chinese musicians. Its members are mainly young Chinese music lovers wishing to pursue a career in music. Since its inception, the Orchestra has performed in more than two hundred concerts including places overseas liked Vienna, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Osaka, Melbourne, etc.
