HKETO Director visits Calgary

Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (Toronto) (HKETO), Ms Emily Mo, visited Calgary from October 27 to 28 to strengthen Hong Kong’s relations with the Province of Alberta and to promote Hong Kong as the ideal platform for Canadian companies to tap on the markets in Asia and beyond.

Upon arrival on October 27, Ms Mo held a lunch meeting with Mr Ron Hoffmann, Vice President, Business Development of Fluid Energy Group Ltd. and a former Canadian diplomat, to exchange views with him on how to foster collaboration to strengthen the trade relations between Alberta and Hong Kong.  She then had a meeting with the President and Chief Executive Officer of Calgary Chamber of Commerce, Ms Deborah Yedlin, to exchange views on promotion of trades and businesses between the City of Calgary and Hong Kong, particularly on the information and technology, clean technology, clean energy and healthcare sectors. 

In the evening, Ms Mo attended the Hong Kong-Canada Business Association (HKCBA) Calgary Section’s networking reception entitled “A New Era: Succeeding in Asia and Beyond through Hong Kong” and delivered a speech.  She updated the attendees that Hong Kong has been maintaining its status as the top international financial market and continued to be the freest economy in the world.  

“Even during the pandemic, the number of business operations in Hong Kong with parent companies overseas or in the Mainland China rose to over 9 000 and the number of start-ups increased to over 3 700 in 2021, both reaching record highs,” Ms Mo said.

Looking forward, Ms Mo remarked that Hong Kong is poised to enter a new era opportunities as the city further integrates into the national development, including the 14th Five-Year Plan and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Development.

Before closing, Ms Mo invited participants to visit Hong Kong in order to learn more about how Canadian companies can tap the vast opportunities presented by the rapid-growing Asia market through Hong Kong.

On October 28, Ms Mo paid a visit to a team of Hong Kong curlers at a pre-competition training session at the Glencoe Club. The team will compete in the Pan-Continental Curling Championships to be held in Calgary from October 31 to November 6.

Ms Mo returned to Toronto in the afternoon of October 28.

香港經貿處處長到訪卡加里

香港駐多倫多經濟貿易辦事處(香港經貿處)處長巫菀菁於十月二十七至二十八日到訪卡加里,加強香港與亞省的關係,並推廣香港是加拿大公司進軍亞洲及其他地區市場的理想平台。

巫菀菁於十月二十七日到埗後與Fluid Energy Group Ltd.業務發展副總裁暨加拿大前外交官Ron Hoffmann舉行午餐會議,就如何加強亞省與香港的貿易合作關係交換意見。隨後,巫菀菁與卡加里商會會長暨首席行致總監Deborah Yedlin會面,就促進卡加里與香港之間,特別在資訊科技、潔淨技術、潔淨能源及醫療保健方面的經貿發展交換意見。

巫菀菁在傍晚出席由港加商會(卡加里分會)舉辦題為「新時代:香港為通往亞洲及以外地區成功之門」聯誼酒會並致辭。巫菀菁向與會者介紹香港一直保持頂尖國際金融中心的地位,並為全球最自由經濟體。

巫菀菁表示:「即使在疫情期間,母公司設於海外或中國內地的駐港公司數目增至逾9 000間,而初創企業數目在二零二一年亦大增至逾3 700間,兩項數字均創新高。」

展望未來,巫菀菁指出,隨着香港進一步融入國家發展包括國家《十四五規劃綱要》及粵港澳大灣區發展,香港已準備迎向一個充滿機遇的新時代。

最後,巫菀菁誠邀與會者到訪香港,了解更多有關加拿大公司如何通過香港把握發展迅速的亞洲市場所帶來的龐大商機。

巫菀菁於十月二十八日探訪正在卡加里Glencoe Club作賽前備戰的香港冰壺代表隊。香港冰壺代表隊於十月三十一日至十一月六日參加在卡加里舉行的首屆洲際冰壺錦標賽。

巫菀菁於十月二十八日下午返回多倫多。
