Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (Toronto) (HKETO), Ms Emily Mo, attended the Appreciation Gala of the Markham, Richmond Hill & Vaughan Chinese Business Association (MRVCBA) on December 8.
In her opening address, Ms Mo congratulated the Association for its success in building up a strong business community in the York region in the past year, especially its Inaugural Outstanding Women Awards. She thanked the Association for advancing the interests of local Chinese businesses in different sectors, and assisting them to expand into the Asian market by using Hong Kong as a springboard.
As 2019 is coming to an end, Ms Mo highlighted the accomplishments of the Hong Kong in the past year to the participants. “Examples of our accomplishments include implementation of the Free Trade Agreement with ASEAN, a 43% increase in the number of start-ups in two years, and the recognition as the third most competitive economy in the world,” she said.
Ms Mo remarked that although 2019 is a challenging year for Hong Kong, with the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government’s determination to support the community to overcome the economic situation, the city continues to be the international financial and business hub. She encouraged Canadian companies to seize the investment and business opportunities in Asia through Hong Kong.
