November 10, 2017

The Toronto Reel Asian Film Festival (Reel Asian) in partnership with the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Toronto (HKETO) is proud to present North American premieres of THE POSTERIST and IN YOUR DREAMS at this year’s edition of the festival.

Director of THE POSTERIST, Hui See-Wai, took part in the press conference co-hosted by Reel Asian and HKETO on November 10.  He will attend the film’s screening and meet with the audience on Saturday, November 11 at 6:30pm at TIFF Bell Lightbox.  THE POSTERIST chronicles the life of Yuen Tai-Yung, the man behind iconic Hong Kong movie posters for films starring Bruce Lee, the Hui Brothers, Karl Maka, Stephen Chow, Jackie Chan and Sammo Hung. IN YOUR DREAMS is the directorial debut from Tam Wai-Ching who co-wrote screenplays for acclaimed director Dante Lam’s OPERATION MEKONG and Benny Chan’s CALL OF HEROES. Starring Carina Lau and Siu Hin Ng, the film is a subtle exploration of the fragility of marriage and the essence of romance that defies the traditional conventions of age and class. Tam Wai-Ching will be in attendance at the film’s screening on Sunday, November 12 at 8:30 PM at TIFF Bell Lightbox. Click here for film synopsis and details.

Director of HKETO, Miss Kathy Chan, said that HKETO is honoured to be once again a major sponsor of the festival to bring two Hong Kong films to the audience of Toronto this year.

“Hong Kong has many talented filmmakers.  The two Hong Kong movies this year are works by two young directors,” Miss Chan said.  “The HKSAR Government has adopted a multi-pronged approach in promoting the development of the film industry.  Established in 1999, the Film Development Fund has supported the production of a great number of films.  Many of these films have attained encouraging achievements.  We will continue to promote the development of the Hong Kong film industry, build audience and nurture more professionals for film production or post-production.”

Reel Asian will take place November 9 to November 18, 2017 in Toronto and public tickets are on sale at reelasian.com.  Reel Asian celebrates 21 years of showcasing the best in contemporary Asian cinema, providing a public forum for Asian media artists and inciting the growing appreciation for Asian cinema in Canada.
