Hong Kong-based performing group, Rhythm & Tempo (R & T), will present two special tap dance performances “Muban - A Tap Dancing Journey” at City Playhouse Theatre in the City of Vaughan on July 15 and 16. The performances are part of Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Toronto (HKETO)’s programme to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) in Canada with the aim of facilitating cultural exchanges between Hong Kong and Canada.
“Muban - A Tap Dancing Journey” is the story about Mulan and her army scaring the Rouran away by imitating a large strong troop with the sounds of their shoes. Mulan was then married to their General and this led to strong enmity towards Mulan from the Rouran. Three years later, the Rouran set up a trap by pretending to give a gift, “The Golden Pearl”, to the Emperor and enticing Mulan to go to their territory ...
“The performance of ‘Muban - A Tap Dancing Journey’ has skillfully blended Chinese and western elements,” the Director of HKETO, Miss Kathy Chan said. “The combination of Chinese ancient costume, traditional Chinese music and western tap dance art will give a refreshing and interesting experience to the audience. This production has been presented in Hong Kong and Beijing and won a lot of acclaim.”
R & T is one of the organizations supported by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council. It uses rhythm to create a pleasant visual and audible journey to their audiences. We welcome the public to experience this wonderful tap dancing journey. Tickets are available at http://www.vaughan.ca/services/city_playhouse_theatre/Pages/upcoming.aspx
